Bangwa Figures

These figures depict a king and a woman who is the mother of twins.  The king's richly-textured headdress, necklace and palm wine container are all important symbols of royal power. The woman's mouth is open as to suggest royal speech, breath or oral performance of a song which is the obligation of every mother of twins to learn.
